Public Health Nurse

Applications are invited from suitably qualified persons for the position of: Public Health Nurse 1 (RN3), St. James Public Health Services.

The Western Regional Health Authority (a Statutory Body under the Ministry of Health) is currently seeking to employ a Public Health Nurse for the St. James Public Health Services. Reporting to the District Public Health Nurse the incumbent will be responsible for the management and supervision of the delivery of family Health Services and investigation of communicable diseases within the assigned Health area.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science Degree or its equivalent in Public Health Nursing from an accredited institution.
• Registration with the Nursing Council of Jamaica as Registered Nurse and Midwife.
• Five – seven (5-7) years Clinical Practice to proficiency level as a Registered Nurse/Midwife.

Responsibilities

• Collects, collates and analyses data of assigned health area for assessment of health status and effectiveness of health programmes;
• Co-ordinates, manages and evaluates child welfare, ante-natal, post-natal, family planning and other clinics;
• Prepares and submits periodic records and reports, e.g. Monthly, quarterly and annually;
• Participates in preparation of annual budget for assigned health area;
• Collaborates with health team members for programme planning;
• Assesses and diagnoses deviations in Maternal and Child Health Care and institutes appropriate nursing interventions;
• Makes referrals based on physical and psycho-social assessment of clients and documents appropriately;
• Conducts counselling and Health Education sessions with individuals, families, community groups e.g. Schools, PTA, Church and Youth Clubs;
• Plans, implements, and evaluates in-service education programmes for staff under supervision;
• Keeps current to ensure professional growth and participates in career guidance activities.
